Group 1 - BOTAS, a state energy company in Türkiye, has signed a 20-year agreement with Mercuria for the purchase of approximately 4 billion cubic metres (bcm) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) annually starting in 2026, totaling around 70 bcm over the contract term [1][3] - The LNG will be sourced from loading terminals in the US, with regasification occurring in Türkiye, Europe, and North Africa [2] - This agreement supports Türkiye's objective of achieving a $100 billion trade volume with the US and enhances the country's energy supply security and diversification [3][4] Group 2 - The signing of the agreement took place during President Tayyip Erdogan's visit to the UN General Assembly, attended by key figures including Minister Alparslan Bayraktar and Mercuria president Daniel Jaeggi [2][4] - In addition to the deal with Mercuria, BOTAS has also signed a preliminary long-term LNG agreement with Woodside Energy, covering approximately 5.8 bcm over nine years starting in 2030 [5]
