Group 1 - The National Forestry and Grassland Administration has officially announced a new batch of 22 national important wetlands, with Jiangsu Province's Hongze Lake National Important Wetland successfully included, marking a new phase in wetland protection and management in Jiangsu Province [1] - Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party, China has continuously promoted wetland protection and restoration, implementing over 3,700 wetland protection and restoration projects, adding and restoring more than 1 million hectares of wetlands, leading to significant improvements in wetland ecological conditions [3] - A total of 82 internationally important wetlands, 22 certified international wetland cities, 80 national important wetlands, and 1,205 provincial important wetlands have been designated nationwide, establishing a preliminary wetland grading management system [3] Group 2 - The Hongze Lake National Important Wetland covers an area of approximately 150,000 acres, located entirely within the core protected area of the Hongze Lake National Nature Reserve, primarily protecting inland freshwater lake wetland ecosystems and rare endangered species such as the Baikal Teal, Oriental White Stork, and the Yellow-breasted Bunting [5] - This wetland serves as a critical node and dense intersection in the East Asia-Australasia migratory bird flyway, playing important roles in water source conservation, water quality purification, climate regulation, and biodiversity maintenance [6] - The Jiangsu Provincial Forestry Bureau, in collaboration with local party committees and governments, has actively promoted the return of fishing areas to wetlands and ecological restoration, significantly enhancing habitat quality, with 1,361 species of wild animals recorded in the protected area, including 240 bird species and a total of over 800,000 individuals [6]
