First steps taken to end U.S. government shutdown

We're looking at new developments state side. The US Senate has voted to pass the first stage of a deal which would see an end to the country's longest ever government shutdown. Eight Democrats joined all but one Republican in favor, meeting the 60 vote threshold needed for the procedural measure to pass.The agreement would fund the government until the end of January and includes a guarantee by Republicans of a vote on extending enhanced affordable care act tax credits in December.
