Chicago PMI comes in at 47.1
CNBC Television· 2025-07-31 14:17
Well, this is an odd one. 47.1% is our July read from MNI on the Chicago PMI. Manufacturing much better than expected, but still under 50.47.1% would be the best since March. But here's the issue. It's the 20th consecutive number under 50 in contraction mode. It's the 34th out of 35 under 50.The last time we had over 50 was November of 23, but prior to that, the entire year was under 50. So, it's definitely a weak number in general, but it's a strong number today. Dollar index, and we mentioned this yesterd ...

What are the Elon Musk faithful most excited about? #ai #tech
Bloomberg Technology· 2025-07-31 14:03
This company still has throngs of adoring fans and they go to every event. I'm walking around like there's all these Cybert trucks. People are wearing t-shirts that say don't bet against Elon and they're wearing t-shirts from like previous product launches and it was almost like a reunion. There were things for the kids to do. There was a 3D printed Cybert truck that you could color. So they were giving out Cybert trucks and crayons and a lot of kids were were coloring them among the sort of test Tesla Elon ...
Tiny Game Boys you can actually play? It's the $50 Thumby Color and $30 Thumby. #TITW
The Verge· 2025-07-31 14:01
This tiny Game Boy plays Doom for real. There's a Tiny Game Boy Advance, too. Today, I'm toying with the Thumby and Thumpy Color from the makers of the Tiny TV.They don't play Nintendo games, unless you count knockoff Zelda, but there's Tetris and Connect 4 and Mind Sweeper and Doom and Flappy Bird and Bustamov. There's Solitaire in 2048 and whatever else you want to code and upload right in a browser window. Both thumbies have Raspberry Pi Pico processors inside, but the color is more powerful with an RP23 ...

Inside China’s Dark Factories, Where Hyper-Automation Rules 24/7
The Wall Street Journal· 2025-07-31 14:00
[Music] With lights dimmed and no workers in sight, this car factory in China uses hundreds of robots to churn out dozens of electric vehicles an hour, 24/7. This is a dark factory, an area of the plant so automated and with so little human presence that in theory the lights could be completely shut off. Factories like this one are part of China's bid to use hyper automation to dominate the electric vehicle or EV market. But the furious trade war between Washington and Beijing raises a key question. Who is g ...

The Big Companies Have To Catch Up in AI
20VC with Harry Stebbings· 2025-07-31 14:00
Ironically, Google, whom we all piss on, has executed the best of the four. They have a model that works. Apple doesn't even have a product that works.Microsoft bought someone else's product, but doesn't quite own it. So, it's kind of weird. Facebook is desperately trying to buy product, but it's not like out of success. It's out of terrible psychological need for a product, even though they don't have a business to justify it. I don't think these guys are too powerful. If anything, I think they're a bunch o ...
