Efficiency Upgrades - Starknet v0.14.1 deployed on mainnet, a key step toward real-time cost alignment and sustainable decentralization [1] - Starknet reduced the portion of blocks used for non-user-facing data, allocating more space to user transactions [1] - Blocks now close every 2 seconds when the network is quiet, preventing unnecessary fee adjustments and improving congestion transparency [2] - Network consistently reaches 80% gas target [3] Fee Mechanism Improvements - EIP-1559-style mechanism implemented to keep fees more predictable, with gas prices expected to converge toward target levels [2] - Gas fees fully cover user costs while remaining industry-standard low, with simple transfers reported as sub-cent [2] - Fees now respond more directly to network activity, creating a fairer and more transparent system where users pay proportionally to network congestion [3] Technical Updates - Starknet transitioned from Poseidon to BLAKE hash for DECLARE transactions [3] - CASM hashes now take less space [3]

Network Upgrade & Efficiency - Starknet v0.14.1 successfully deployed on mainnet, marking a step towards decentralization [1] - Upgrade reduces "invisible" data portion in blocks, allocating more resources to user-facing data, thus increasing efficiency [1] Fee Mechanism & Predictability - Implemented a 1559-style mechanism for better fee predictability, aiming for convergence toward target gas prices [2] - Reduced block-time variance, with blocks closing after 2 seconds when the network is uncongested, enhancing congestion transparency [2] - Fees are now more tightly linked to network congestion [2] Cost Alignment & Sustainability - Gas fees are increasing to fully cover user costs, establishing a sustainable economic baseline while remaining within industry standards; simple transfers will still be sub-cent [3] - Future optimizations are planned to further reduce fees [3]

Market Need & Solution - The industry needs a trustless onchain gas futures market, similar to a prediction market on BASEFEE [1] - An onchain gas futures market would provide a clear signal of future gas fee expectations [1] - It would also allow users to hedge against future gas prices, effectively prepaying for gas [1] Underlying Concerns - There are concerns about future gas fees, despite current low fees [1] - Doubts exist regarding the long-term impact of increasing gas limits from BAL, ePBS, and ZK-EVM on maintaining low fees [1]

We need a good trustless onchain gas futures market.(Like, a prediction market on the BASEFEE)I've heard people ask: "today fees are low, but what about in 2 years? You say they'll stay low because of increasing gaslimit from BAL + ePBS + later ZK-EVM, but do I believe you?"An onchain gas futures market would help solve this: people would get a clear signal of people's expectations of future gas fees, and would even be able to hedge against future gas prices, effectively prepaying for any specific quantity ...
