As the original inventor of the modexp precompile I bow my head in shame 😢But modexp really does hold Ethereum back so much. Both because of inefficiency, and because its complexity has exposed our ecosystem to huge amounts of consensus failure risk.We could do heroic efforts to try to optimize (both raw execution and proving of) something that 0.01% of people use, but IMO it's unwise to, especially when there are much more urgent scaling needs and we have the rest of the protocol to harden. ...
