Core Insights - Cyclic Materials has announced an investment of over $82 million (C$110.86 million) to establish a new rare earth recycling campus in McBee, South Carolina, which will be its second US spoke facility and largest hub facility [1] - The facility will initially process 2,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) of magnet material, with plans to expand capacity to 6,000 tpa [1] - The proprietary MagCycle and REEPure processes will be integrated into the site to recover mixed rare earth oxides (MREOs) from end-of-life products, with initial production expected to be 600 tpa and future expansion to 1,800 tpa [2] Industry Impact - Once fully operational, the expected 1,800 tpa of MREOs would be sufficient to produce six million hybrid transmissions annually, supporting the manufacturing of vehicles, advanced electronics, AI infrastructure, and high-performance permanent magnets [3] - The initiative aims to create a robust North American source for REEs, reducing reliance on traditional mining and overseas sources [4] Strategic Partnerships - Cyclic Materials has extended its partnership with Vacuumschmelze (VAC) to build a North American supply chain, with VAC providing a reliable source of raw materials and expertise in rare earth magnet technology [5] - An agreement with VAC will allow Cyclic Materials to exclusively recycle all magnet production byproducts from VAC's new facility in Sumter, South Carolina, with operations expected to start by 2028 [6] Economic Development - The new campus is projected to create over 90 skilled jobs and is part of an effort to accelerate the domestic supply of REE infrastructure more rapidly than traditional mining methods [6]
