Group 1 - The Capital Medical University Affiliated Capital Children's Medical Center has established a Fetal Medicine Center to provide timely and accurate neonatal surgical assessments for pregnant women with fetal deformities, aiming to avoid unnecessary pregnancy terminations and determine the optimal timing and method for delivery [1][2] - Birth defects are a leading cause of early miscarriage, stillbirth, perinatal mortality, infant mortality, and congenital disabilities, ranking second in causes of death in China, with approximately 800,000 to 1,200,000 new cases each year [1][2] - The Fetal Medicine Center integrates multiple specialties, including neonatal surgery, neurosurgery, ultrasound imaging, genetic medicine, neonatal internal medicine, and urology, and collaborates with various prenatal diagnosis centers across Beijing and nationwide [2] Group 2 - Between 2018 and 2022, 93.69% of live births with congenital diaphragmatic hernia in Beijing were evaluated prenatally and treated by the neonatal surgical team at the Capital Children's Medical Center, with a significantly lower mortality rate of 15.38% compared to 42.86% at other institutions in Beijing [2] - The survival rate for diaphragmatic hernia infants in Beijing reached 80.82%, with the Capital Children's Medical Center achieving a survival rate of 84.62%, surpassing international rates of 75% in the UK and 74.2% in the US [2] - The Fetal Medicine Center aims to shift the focus from postnatal treatment to prenatal intervention, utilizing advanced minimally invasive techniques to treat life-threatening fetal conditions and optimize opportunities for further treatment after birth [2]
