Stock market today: Dow jumps over 500 points to record close, Nvidia's slide drags on Nasdaq

US stocks were mixed on Tuesday, as the blue-chip Dow index jumped to notch a new all-time high close, fueled by optimism that Washington may soon end the record-breaking government shutdown. Tech stocks faltered in a bid to extend their own rally, however, dragged down largely by Nvidia (NVDA). The S&P 500 (^GSPC) rose roughly 0.2%, and the Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) dropped 0.2%.
