Core Viewpoint - The China-Laos 500 kV interconnection project has achieved full line connectivity, enhancing bilateral electricity exchange capabilities and promoting clean energy transmission [1] Group 1: Project Overview - The project connects Laos' Udomxay and Luang Namtha provinces with China's Yunnan province, consisting of a 145 km domestic section and a 32.5 km section in Laos [1] - The project is jointly invested in by China Southern Power Grid Company and the Laos National Transmission Grid Company [1] - Upon operation, the project will enable a bi-directional electricity exchange capacity of 1.5 million kW, delivering approximately 3 billion kWh of clean electricity annually [1] Group 2: Environmental Considerations - The construction area traverses ecologically sensitive regions, including a tropical rainforest protection zone and the only Asian elephant habitat in the country [1] - Innovative measures during construction led to a reduction of 15 cableway installations and over 80,000 square meters of temporary land occupation, preventing the felling of more than 30,000 trees [1] - Disturbance to the protected area was reduced by over 90%, effectively avoiding core areas of forest and regions rich in biodiversity, ensuring minimal ecological impact from the project [1]
