Tom Lee: Historic Deleveraging Drove Crypto's Decoupling from GoldTom Lee, Chairman of Bitmine, said in an interview on January 20, that crypto assets had continued to outperform gold prior to October last year, but the largest deleveraging event in crypto history occurred on October 10. One of the key factors you're missing is that gold is far more expensive to validate (assay, in gold lingo) than Bitcoin. This has made gold inefficient for payments outside of gold coins (where you're trusting the issuer to not debase, a trust that has often been violated -- and of course gold IOUs, ETFs, etc. are even worse in that regard).
