Core Insights - The first high-energy direct geometric inelastic neutron scattering spectrometer in China has passed acceptance and is ready for scientific experiments [1][2] - This spectrometer fills a gap in high-energy inelastic neutron scattering instruments above 100 meV in China and will support research in various fields such as thermoelectric materials, magnetic materials, high-temperature superconductors, energy materials, and life materials [1][2] - The spectrometer is capable of observing dynamic processes at the atomic and molecular levels on a picosecond timescale, providing a significant advancement in material dynamics research [1][2] Development and Features - Construction of the high-energy inelastic neutron scattering spectrometer began in September 2019, featuring innovative designs in multi-beam experimental modes and self-developed components [2] - Key technologies developed include the Fermi chopper, large vacuum scattering chamber, neutron scattering-compatible magnetic sample environment, and large-area high-pressure helium-3 neutron detectors [2] - The spectrometer has an incident neutron energy range of 10-1500 meV, with a best energy resolution of 3%, achieving performance levels that meet international standards [2] Future Applications - After passing acceptance, the spectrometer will enter a trial operation phase and is expected to be officially open to users by 2026 [2] - It will provide substantial support for cutting-edge research in areas such as high-temperature superconductivity mechanisms, quantum magnetic interactions, thermoelectric material transport properties, ion diffusion mechanisms in batteries, and biological material activity [2]
