Core Viewpoint - The successful acceptance of China's first high-energy direct geometry inelastic neutron scattering time-of-flight spectrometer marks a significant advancement in observing the microscopic structure and dynamic properties of materials, filling a gap in inelastic neutron scattering above 100 meV in China [2]. Group 1 - The high-energy inelastic neutron spectrometer is likened to a "super camera" that can not only visualize the static structure of materials but also detect dynamic processes at the picosecond timescale, capturing how atoms and molecules vibrate, rotate, and transfer energy [2]. - This spectrometer utilizes the unique properties of neutrons, which are electrically neutral and have strong penetration capabilities, allowing for direct detection of microscopic movements within materials through inelastic collisions with atomic nuclei [2]. - The large detector area and the special white beam Laue camera mode will facilitate rapid detection of structural and magnetic information in single crystal materials, providing critical insights for advanced research in high-temperature superconductivity, quantum magnetism, thermoelectric material transport properties, ion diffusion mechanisms in batteries, and the activity of biological materials [2]. Group 2 - As a key component of national major scientific infrastructure, the high-energy inelastic neutron spectrometer will serve as an important platform for the national research community, promoting the development of fundamental disciplines such as physics, chemistry, materials science, and biology through its open sharing [3].
