Denatalità Problem - Denatalità poses a threat to the future and the sustainability of economic, pension, and social service systems [2] - Italy's fertility rate has dropped significantly, from an average of 25 children per woman in the 1960s to 12 children today, ranking it among the lowest in Europe and the world [2][3] - Experts have been investigating the causes of denatalità, including social, economic, cultural, and anthropological factors, but effective solutions are lacking [4] - The biological clock impacts fertility, with age playing a crucial role, especially for women [5] - Less than half of women are aware that age is the primary determinant of their fertility [6] - Female fertility is highest between 20 and 30 years of age and begins to decline progressively after 35, reaching minimum values around 38-40 [7] Social Freezing as a Solution - Fertility preservation, specifically social freezing, is presented as an innovative and safe technique to address declining fertility rates [14] - Social freezing involves freezing young eggs to preserve fertility, offering women the possibility of becoming parents later in life when their natural fertility is lower [16][17] - Social freezing should not be seen as a social buffer to delay childbearing to an advanced age but as a means to promote a more inclusive and balanced culture where women do not have to choose between self-realization and motherhood [18][19] - Social freezing represents a collective response to the aging population and declining birth rates, allowing individuals to better utilize time [19]
