Group 1 - Misconception 1: Tetanus can only be caused by rusty objects; however, various injuries such as puncture wounds, burns, and animal bites can also lead to tetanus infection due to the widespread presence of Clostridium tetani in the environment [1] - Misconception 2: It is believed that tetanus vaccines are ineffective if administered more than 24 hours after an injury; in reality, vaccination can still provide preventive effects even after this time frame, as long as the disease has not yet developed [2] - Misconception 3: Many assume that childhood vaccination provides lifelong immunity; however, the protective effect of the tetanus vaccine diminishes over time, typically lasting 5 to 10 years [3] Group 2 - Recommendation for booster shots: Individuals who have completed the full vaccination course should receive a booster shot if it has been more than 10 years since their last dose, or if they have a high-risk wound and it has been more than 5 years since their last vaccination [4] - High-risk groups: Certain high-risk populations, such as military personnel, police, firefighters, and outdoor workers, are advised to complete pre-exposure vaccination and receive a booster every 10 years to maintain immunity [5]
