Pope Leo XIV criticizes the Trump administration's treatment of migrants
NBC News· 2025-11-18 22:38
I think we have to look for ways of treating people humanely, treating people with the dignity that they have. If people are in the United States illegally, there are ways to treat that. There are courts. There's a system of justice. No one has said that the United States should have open borders. I think every country has a right to to determine who and how and when people enter. But when people are living good lives and many of them for 10, 15, 20 years to treat them in a in a way that is extremely disrespe ...
Major developments in 2020 election interference cases in GA, NV: The Weeknight weighs in
MSNBC· 2025-11-15 03:03
Legal Proceedings & Political Implications - The legal system is showing signs of holding individuals accountable in cases related to the 2020 election interference, specifically in Georgia and Nevada [9] - State-level prosecutions, such as those in Georgia and Nevada, generally progress more slowly than federal cases due to resource constraints [11] - The Georgia case against Trump and his allies is being taken over by a new prosecutor after the removal of Fulton County DA Fony Willis [2] - The Nevada Supreme Court has revived the criminal case against six Trump allies who falsely claimed to be Nevada's legitimate presidential electors [2] - The selection of a new prosecutor in Georgia was challenging, with several potential candidates declining the appointment [3][4][6] Potential Motivations & Concerns - Potential prosecutors may be hesitant to take on the Georgia case due to concerns about career repercussions and political enemies [6] - Another reason for hesitation could be the potential for undisclosed issues within the case inherited from Fonnie Willis and her team [7][8] Future Outlook - The legal proceedings in Georgia and Nevada are expected to be lengthy and may not reach a verdict in the near term [12] - The outcomes of these cases could have implications for future elections, potentially deterring interference in the midterms or 2028 [13]

💯💯💯Senator Eric Schmitt (@SenEricSchmitt):The justice system was weaponized against Republicans in a way we have never seen before. We should have Watergate-style hearings on this for MONTHS.People must be held accountable—resignations, firings, arrests. Otherwise, this will happen again. https://t.co/g567vgsDKc ...
Fmr. SDNY official: 'No way' there will be a conviction in Trump's prosecution of Letitia James
MSNBC· 2025-10-25 00:57
Now we're learning more about what the concerns were with the case. And apparently the benefit to her was only $800. I mean, I can't think I did intake for criminal cases.Nobody would even come into the office and try to pitch a case where the benefit was $800. I mean, that that's absurd. And apparently they're saying, "Oh, it's a lie because she said it was a second home and instead it was an investment property, but she didn't make any money off of it." And she was apparently using it as a rental property ...
Letitia James: Justice System has been weaponized
MSNBC· 2025-10-24 21:01
Legal Challenges & Motions - Defense seeks dismissal in Leticia James's case, citing US Attorney Lindsey Halligan's appointment legality, similar to James Comey's case [1][3] - Validity of indictment hinges on whether Lindsey Halligan was lawfully appointed, as she was the only person who went into the grand jury and signed the indictment [3][4] - Motions regarding Lindsey Halligan's appointment legality in Jim Comey and Leticia James' cases have been consolidated [3] - Defense may argue vindictive or selective prosecution, given career prosecutors initially found insufficient evidence and were subsequently replaced [5] Case Weakness & Unusual Circumstances - Legal experts suggest the case is weak, raising the likelihood it may not proceed to trial [4][5] - A career prosecutor's memo indicated the alleged profit from James's mortgage favorable interest rate might have been as small as $15 per month, questioning criminal intent [9] - The case is unusual due to the small amount of money involved, even if fraud existed [13] - Career prosecutors have deemed the case unsuitable for prosecution by the Justice Department [11][19] Potential Weaponization of DOJ - Concerns raised about the weaponization of the Department of Justice against perceived enemies [15][27] - Allegations that professional judgment of career prosecutors is being overridden for political and vengeful motives [28] - President's comments about Adam Schiff could undermine the prosecution's ability to see the case through, potentially fueling a vindictive prosecution motion [23] - Confirmation of a grand jury investigation, even indirectly, may violate federal rules [24][25]
