RT Nick Szabo (@NickSzabo4)"Square roots of negative numbers are not allowed" is one of the many misleading things they taught in secondary school. You could also ask yourself why irrational numbers are allowed, since you can't write those down exactly as a finite decimal or fraction either. In actual math irrationals and "imaginaries" are both quite allowed and both quite useful. ...
