Core Viewpoint - The South-to-North Water Diversion Project has significantly improved water quality and availability in northern China, enhancing the quality of life for over 114 million people and promoting ecological and economic development [1][2][3]. Group 1: Water Quality and Environmental Protection - Since the commencement of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, the Danjiangkou Reservoir has maintained water quality at Class II or above, ensuring safe drinking water for the population [1]. - Comprehensive protective measures have been implemented to prevent pollution, including monitoring and volunteer initiatives aimed at promoting water conservation [1]. - The ecological environment along the water diversion route has improved significantly, with sediment reduction benefits exceeding 80% in certain areas [2]. Group 2: Economic Development and Regional Growth - The project has catalyzed regional economic growth by optimizing industrial structures and promoting green manufacturing practices, leading to a fivefold increase in GDP since 2003 despite only a 46% increase in total water usage [3]. - The principle of "first save water, then divert water" has driven industries along the route to adapt and innovate, fostering the development of new industries and enhancing traditional sectors [3]. Group 3: Social Impact and Community Benefits - Over 742 billion cubic meters of water have been diverted since the project's initiation, with over 108 billion cubic meters used for ecological replenishment, directly benefiting more than 114 million people [1]. - The project has transformed the water consumption experience from scarcity to abundance, improving the overall quality of water available to communities [1].
