Barclays and Santander follow rivals in slashing mortgage rates

Two of the UK’s largest mortgage lenders have cut their mortgage rates following similar moves by rivals. Barclays and Santander have both cut rates by about half of a percentage point on various products notably on two-year fixed mortgages. Barclays PLC (LSE:BARC) cut 5,000 jobs over the course of last year in a bid to reduce costs and as “technology and automation” improves. Marking the most substantial cuts at the bank since the 2008 financial crisis, reductions are said to have taken the form of both redundancies and vacancies, as per Sky News.
