Core Viewpoint - The Pinglu Canal, a significant infrastructure project in Guangxi, is set to enhance transportation efficiency and economic connectivity between Guangxi and ASEAN regions, with completion expected in 2026 [11][12]. Construction Progress - Major concrete pouring for the main locks at the Ma Dao, Qi Shi, and Qing Nian hubs has been completed, alongside the opening of several bridges [1]. - The canal spans 134.2 kilometers and commenced construction on August 28, 2022 [11]. Environmental and Land Management - The project involves the excavation of 3.15 billion cubic meters of earth and rock, with a focus on comprehensive utilization of materials to minimize land occupation [3]. - Land reclamation efforts have transformed previously occupied farmland and forest land into arable land, increasing contiguous farmland by over 100 acres [5]. - A total of 101 reclamation sites covering approximately 37,600 acres are planned, with over 17,000 acres already leveled and more than 14,000 acres planted [5]. Innovative Techniques - The project employs advanced techniques for underwater blasting to minimize environmental impact, including the use of eco-friendly materials and precise monitoring systems [7][6]. - Since September 2023, over 23 million cubic meters of rock have been blasted, achieving over 90% of the task [8]. Cultural Preservation - The project includes the relocation of 36 ancient trees, with careful planning to ensure their survival and integration into the new environment [8][10]. - The trees, aged between 86 and 230 years, have been successfully transplanted, with ongoing management to preserve their historical and cultural significance [10]. Economic Impact - Upon completion, the Pinglu Canal will facilitate cross-border supply chain development between the ASEAN region, the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone, and the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle, significantly contributing to the economic growth of Guangxi [12].
