老年的苏东坡和儿子苏过以读书、写作为乐,但海南却没有好的文具。《书岭南纸》一文,就是抱怨没 有好的文具: 后来,潘衡在江西一带卖墨,因借了东坡的名气,称自己得了东坡制墨的秘诀,因此生意极好,后来到 杭州,价格更是翻了几倍。叶梦得《避暑录话》对这件事有记载。 "砚细而不退墨,纸滑而字易燥,皆尤物也。吾平生无嗜好,独好佳笔墨。既得罪谪岭南,凡养生具十 无八九,佳纸笔行且尽,至用此等,将何以自娱?为之慨然。" 有个叫潘衡的制墨人到了海南,这让东坡极为高兴。海南松树很多,他和潘衡一起兴致勃勃地砍松枝做 墨,并发明了"远突宽灶法",把烟囱的距离放远,把灶坑扩大,这样一来,虽然可制墨的烟在收获时可 能会少,但烟的质量会提高。 为了防伪,东坡还在墨锭上印以"海南松煤东坡法墨"的字样。他十分开心,为此留下文章: "金华潘衡初来儋耳,起灶作墨,得烟甚丰,而墨不甚精。予教其作远突宽灶,得烟几减半,而墨乃 尔。其印文曰'海南松煤东坡法墨',皆精者也。常当防墨工盗用印,使得墨者疑耳。此墨出灰池中,未 五日而色已如此,日久胶定,当不减李廷珪、张遇也。元符二年四月十七日。"(《书潘衡墨》) "此墨吾在海南亲作,其墨与廷珪不相下。海南多松 ...
